Hello people,

In the next days I'm gonna begin a new mini series here in the style of my last
one, about
[FreeBSD]({{< ref "2014-07-20-here-be-dragons-freebsd-overview-part-i" >}}).

## Motivation

I always wanted to have an opportunity to test a [Raspberry
Pi](http://www.raspberrypi.org/). I still remember my enthusiasm when I first
heard about it (probably by a podcast or a Linux BBS). Okay, those small devices
tend to attract people anyways, however the Pi always got a special place in my
head. Although other projects such as Arduino, Galileo and Beaglebone ask for
some attention, none of them is comparable to a Pi in the sense of upstreamness.

Now, after a little bit of serendipity and other factors, [me and some friends
won](http://www.poli.ufrj.br/noticias/noticias.php?numnews=2032) two Raspberry
Pis on a recent hackathon. This was a complete surprise (I believe almost all
prizes and/or competitions of my life always were one) and I thought it was
(is!) the perfect opportunity to review one of them. So, let's do it, shall we?

## Hello, Pi

What are the first impressions after you see a Raspberry Pi? Well, you'll
probably say: "whoa, it is very small for a computer!". Maybe you won't get too
impressed in our **modern** days of modern smartphones and phablets, but let's
forget them for a moment.
